Physical Education
We believe that a high-quality PE curriculum inspires children to succeed and excel in physically demanding activities and competitive sports. This, in turn, helps them build important life skills such as resilience, tenacity, and determination.
We wish to support our pupils’ health and fitness and provide them with opportunities to become physically confident. It is our aim to inspire our pupils to be involved in competitive sport and other activities to help build character and embed values such as good sportsmanship and respect.
We follow PE Planning to ensure the children are exposed to a variety of sports as well as ensuring a progression of developing skills.
We follow PE Planning which exposes children to a variety of sports and develops skills progression. PE Planning follows The National Curriculum for physical education, which aims to ensure all pupils:
- Develop competence to excel in various physical activities.
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time.
- Engage in healthy, competitive sports and activities.
- Lead healthy, active lifestyles.
We recognise the importance and impact of both high-quality PE and school sport. We also promote our whole school ethos and values through PE. Positive relationships in sport are fostered alongside house teams, which pupils compete against each other at Sports Day! Class PE sessions also enable our children to experience competition in a range of contexts and challenge them to learn new disciplines. As well as aiming for our children to be active in PE lessons, we aim to be active in the classroom too. Our outdoor, multi-climbing trim trail is extremely popular in developing strength and agility, as is their Daily Mile around the playground!
We are lucky to be able to swim at Warlingham Sixth Form and Secondary School's pool, which is based on the shared campus. Children in Upper Key Stage 2 swim weekly.
Through developing a love of sport, the staff at Hamsey Green Primary offer a wide range of after school sports clubs for children which allows children to further practise and develop their sport and feel part of a team. We pride ourselves in offering the teacher run clubs without a cost. Weekly competitions allow children to represent the school and their achievements are celebrated within the school, and with parents and carers.
