Art & Design

At Hamsey Green we want our children to enjoy experimenting, inventing and creating their own pieces of and art and design. Through the exploration of the seven art techniques: colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space, children at Hamsey Green will understand the historical and cultural development of art around the world and begin to think about how art reflects and shapes history. Our children are encouraged to be curious, learning about different artists and their various styles of work. As they progress through the school, the children are given opportunities to think critically, sharing their opinions, and developing a more rigorous understanding of art.

Children also have the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas when learning about artists, designers, and appreciating both their own and others' artwork.

Each year group studies several artists linked to the specific skills being taught, such as Year 3 studies our local artist CS Lockton during their locality study topic. Art is also linked to other subjects, where possible.

All children's work is valued. Children are proud of their work and look forward to seeing their work, and others' work on display.
